A career as Certified Nursing Assistant or CNA is a challenging, fast paced and rewarding one. Loans, grants and government aid is available. It is a field with many possibilities as CNA’s are necessary in hospitals, nursing homes, and doctor’s offices to help with the patients. CNA’s often help with direct patient care including grooming, feeding and bathing. In order to become a CNA you must complete one of the many CNA certification classes online. Sometimes these courses will put a financial strain on an individual and they may need assistance in order to enroll.
One way that you can gain assistance is through government aid. You can apply for your FAFSA or Free Application for Federal Student Aid. When you fill out this form you can find out how much, if any, support you can receive from the federal government for your schooling.
A more attractive way of acquiring a loan for your Certified Nursing Assistant Course is to apply for a government loan. The most commonly awarded government is the Stafford loan. This loan is not subsidized which means that you don’t have to pay it back until you have completed the program. You will usually have a grace period before the loan accrues interest and then you must start paying it off. You can also gain an unsubsidized loan which usually have lower interest and offer a grace period of up to 6 months after you graduate before you have to begin to repay it. The government loans are usually more attractive for these reasons. Most of the time this will allow you time to set up a payment plan and get your finances in order
Another option is to find private loans. These loans usually come through banks or financial institutions and do not have the same grace periods or low interest rates. They are not as flexible with grace periods and repayment plans and often come with hidden fees. In order to gain a better interest rate you must have good credit or have a cosigner. You will want to make sure that when you are shopping around that you pay attention to interest rates, fees and repayment plans so that you can have the best deal possible.
Do not let money issues stand in the way of pursuing your dream and the rewarding career of becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant. Find the loan that works the best for you.
